Our sixtieth day began in Bakersfield, CA. The morning sun greeted us with a warm glow over highway 101 in southern California. We made our way south to Los Angeles on this famous highway that traverses through the city. We then took a photo underneath another ID.4 the was perched on top of it’s awning. We captured a mirror that displayed the road behind us and warped our ID.4 in an interesting way. There was a 60’s VW beetle that was rusted with time but still maintained it’s spirit by still running and proudly displaying a German license plate indicating that it is from Munich. The LA River was also close by and we saw that although there was little water to be seen, the river was once free-flowing and frequently flooding, forming alluvial flood plains along its banks, it is currently notable for flowing through a concrete channel on a fixed course, which was built after a series of devastating floods in the early 20th century. While charging at an Electrify America station, a large electric, double length city bus charged right next to our ID.4. We then continued on through the LA area, and made our way out to Palm Springs. The highway was mountainous and had many things to offer for sightseeing as we passed through the San Gabriel mountain range. We passed underneath a bridge that proudly displayed Desert Hot Springs Palm Springs. The electric power lines displayed a powerful sight as they stretched to the highway and looked as if they touched the base of the mountain. Although Palm Springs does have many palm trees, it was called this not because of the trees but because early Spanish explorers who referred to the area as La Palma de la Mano de Dios or “The Palm of God’s hand”. More aqueducts stretched out to these cities are are life forces for the vitality of the town. In a Big League Dreams Park, there was a building displaying a bald eagle in front of an American flag and the California Republic flag flying proudly next to it. We then parked the ID.4 next to a sign that displayed the end of the road next to the desert sunset. The day concluded in El Centro, CA
