Day 80: CHIPLEY, FL TO TAMPA, FL

The eightieth day started with a fully charged ID. 4, in Chipley, FL. We went north for a short stint in Dothan, AL. The sunrise offered a wonderful spectrum of hues that complimented the ID. 4 beautifully. We then headed back south and were welcomed back into the Sunshine state. Some cows grazed the Florida countryside and were accompanied by birds called cattle egrets. Each cow had about 2-3 birds next to its feet helping to control ticks and flies. We then saw a train of 4 bicyclists trekking down the long stretch of road. Breaking into the Georgia state line, we came across South Eden Plantation in Thomasville, GA. The white fibres of the cotton field filled the landscape as if it were snowflakes atop the winter grass. Near the town of Valdosta, GA, we saw some of the southern architecture that it had to offer. There was an old style police car from the 1960’s that had a sheriff star on the side claiming it as part of the South Georgia Car Club. We re-entered Florida and in Gainesville there was a mural painted by Carrie Martinez titled, “Miami Dogs” displaying five different breeds of dogs all wearing sunglasses. The dogs were in front of a brightly colored background that was reminiscent of the classic t.v. show, MIami Vice. The Indian River Fruit Company in Vero Beach, FL is a family owned roadside fruit stand that specializes in quality Florida oranges and orange juice. Florida’s perfect blend of soil, temperature and moisture provides the climate for what’s recognized as the “best in the world” citrus. Leesburg VW was a treat. One of the extraordinary salesmen offered us a showcase of his spectacular breakdancing skills. A multicolored neon light fixture caught our eyes in Leesburg, FL. We passed under a lit bridge entering “The Villages” in Sumter County. We charged the ID. 4 at an Electrify America station. Working together with the Electrify America station, the ID. 4’s incredible power source is able to intake this amount of electric energy at a very efficient speed for it’s class. It only took one hour to reach 100%, and we finished the day in Tampa, FL.
